Keshav Dev Temple, also known as Shri Krishna Janmasthan Temple, is one of the most important and sacred temples in Mathura, dedicated to Lord Krishna in his form as Keshav Dev (Keshav meaning "one with beautiful hair" and Dev meaning "god"). The temple is believed to be constructed over the prison cell (Garbha Griha) where Lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva, making it a primary pilgrimage site for Krishna devotees worldwide.
The original temple was built in the 4th century CE but has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times by different rulers. The current structure, built in 1958, showcases a blend of traditional architecture and modern design. The temple complex also includes the Bhagavata Bhavan and Garbha Griha Shrine, with the Krishna Janmabhoomi as its focal point.
